Mountain Guardian Alpine Shelter - Massimo Gnocchi Architects

The project aims to design a new mountain shelter close to the old Capanna Bernasconi, which is no longer usable.

The new mountain shelter is conceived as a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional alpine shelter.

It rises on the footprint of the pre-existing structure, preserving the memory of the old hut through its original layout, now traversed by a walkway that boldly extends towards the surrounding panorama, offering a breathtaking view of the alpine landscape.

The existing shelter

Once, along the western ridge of Pizzo Tresero—one of the giants towering over the Gavia Pass—stood a small shelter: Capanna Bernasconi.
Today, due to the unstable climatic conditions of the glacier, only the ruins of this resting point remain, which once served as a base for climbing one of the most picturesque peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale massif.
