Lecco Fire Station - Massimo Gnocchi Architects

The design concept for this project emerged from the necessity to bridge the disparate characteristics of the site. On one side, there is the organic and serene landscape of the lakeside, while on the other lies a major suburban road that connects to an industrial area. This juxtaposition calls for a nuanced approach to each aspect of the building's design.

Careful consideration was given to the placement and orientation of the structure, grounded in a thorough analysis that seeks to harmoniously address various site-specific requirements. These include considerations for access points, pathways, and the trajectory of sunlight. A key aspect of the design is the deliberate framing of views towards the lake, ensuring the building's seamless integration with the natural surroundings.

The formal archetype of reference is the courtyard layout, as it represents the architectural typology that best embodies the concept of a "civic center". The building stands out as a clear point of reference in the urban landscape and marks the boundary line between the industrial zone and the lakeside area.
